Eire or Ireland Slate Plaque
$45.00
It has been argued that the earliest inscriptions in Ogham date to about 4th century AD, but James Carney believed the origin is rather within the 1st century BC. The Celts based their Ogham writing on trees, naming each character after a special tree or bush. The writings are translated from English to Gaelic (or Irish) as is is simply called. It is read from bottom to top when vertical. In horizontal form, the right side would face downward.
This carving is Irish with English translation.
This piece is hand carved on slate. 12″ x 6″. (see detailed photos) Can be beautifully displayed on an easel or shelf.
What a unique gift for someone who is Irish or has been to Ireland. Great wedding gift.
